Question by rebecca2008: Aromatherapy: how do you use essential oil?
Do you just smell it or what? What do you do with the oil?

Best answer:

Answer by Hearty
There are different applications for different oils. This is just one of them:

Lavender (Lavandula vera)
Oil of lavender is distilled from the flowering tops of the lavender plant and is generally imported from France. Having a clean, fresh scent, Lavender can encourage feelings of exhilaration or relaxation.

Traditionally known to help sooth emotional extremes, lavender may aid the body’s calming response during headaches and help soothe tired muscles. A drop or two on the pillow at night may glide you into a restful night’s sleep. Lavender is gentle to the skin and when applied may bring the aromatic influence of love and peace.

Question by : Aromatherapy can promotes good health ?
There are some company that sells aromatherapy products (with diffuser) through direct selling. The claim is the product can helps promote good health if used on daily basis. e.g with certain kind of oil it prevents flu, high blood pressure, increase oxygen inside a room, etc. Has anyone tried and tested this kind of things? Is there any proven result? This thing is also expensive. (Especially the diffuser that looks like a perfume bottle …)

Answer by Naturopathic Doctor
Good Morning,

Actually no, aromatherapy oils are pressed and formulated to a science. Aroma therapy oils are fused oils or essential oils for therapeutic use. To use these oils it is best to consult an aroma therapist or a trained Naturopath. There are ways on how to make therapeutic oils but the herbs must be weighed and compounded to ensure that the mg strength is not to high or to low.

Not unless their labels say they contain essential oils, which I don’t believe they do. The term “aromatherapy” is used way too loosely by the retail world, trying to get you to buy their products, even though they don’t have theraputic benefits like real essential oils do. If the label uses words like “fragrance”, “scent”, or “perfume”, it’s not essential oil. It will only smell good. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if that’s all you want it for. But if you want it to actually do something for you beyond give you something to smell, it’s useless.

If you want aromatherapy that works, check your local health food or herbal store for real essential oils. For relaxation, lavender and chammomile are favorites. For alertness, any of the citrus oils are good, as are the mints.

Q&A: How am I supposed to use my aromatherapy (small) meditation rocks?

Question by humblestumble S: How am I supposed to use my aromatherapy (small) meditation rocks?
I have these really small “meditation” rocks that my boyfriend’s family gave me. I have had them for a year or so and I still don’t know what to do with them. Does anyone have any idea of what to do? They have some sort of powder on them which gives them a special aroma.
No, David, that is not what I am talking about. Thanks for looking. The rocks I have are mostly all of a pale color. There’s even a shell or two in here and a few crystal type stones. There’s also what looks like a few potpourri type things.
They are from http://pearlessence.com/default.aspx
Maybe I am supposed to just let them air out like potpourri?

Is this what you are talking about?

Meditation Stones

http://www.universoul-llc.com/browseproducts/Meditation-Stones.html

Each stone signifies a meditative objective:
visualization,
peace and tranquility,
equilibrium,
spiritual growth,
support and protection.

I’m afraid that I can’t tell you anything about the method.
I ASSUME that, once you know what each stone signifies, you use it as a physical focus for your meditation — but that’s just a shot in the dark!

EDIT:
Looks like what they do is: “smell nice!”

first, make sure you always keep them in the fridge.. and tightly closed citrus oils are the first to go rancid. they last usually from 6months-to a year maximum. everything else usually lasts1-2 years.
